SOLUNA MONO / DUO The Battery Chargers
The battery charging system Soluna MONO / DUO was developed by
Soaring Pilots and represents modern, independent charging
technology for aircraft batteries in the trailer.
The removal of poorly accessible aircraft batteries is eliminated.
You fly and overnight your batteries are being recharged.
Even during times of reduced solar radiation, your on-board system
can be supplied through the charging connector.
The Solar System
The solar system consists of a solar module, which is dimensioned
after discussion with you, a solar charging controller and a buffer
battery. Your module loads the buffer battery during times of
sufficient solar radiation, so that the system can be supplied even
during times of limited radiation for a usage-dependent period of
time. During this process the charging regulator protects your
buffer battery from harmful overcharging as well as from deep
discharges.
Charging of your On-Board Batteries
The charging system with a Gel-Cell buffer battery which was
dimensioned according to your energy requirements was laid out for
use with the common lead-gel on-board batteries such as 12 V 7.2
Ah. We adapt our system to your charging current requirements!
Soluna MONO was conceptualized for connection to one on-board
battery; two different on-board batteries can simultaneously be
connected to the Soluna DUO.
The Loading Process
After you have connected your aircraft to the loading plug of the
cable reel, the loading process is fully automatic. A simple
assistance is provided by the LED-indicators of the Soluna MONO and
DUO. They indicate whether the loading process is still in progress
or already finished.
Times of reduced Solar Radiation / Storage of the Trailer
in Buildings without Sunlight
Should your solar system not receive sufficient sunlight, but you
would still like to keep you loading system active, we recommend the
connection of a regulated lead-gel charger, which you can also
obtain through us.
SOLUNA VENT Humidity Controller
From experience and continued development new knowledge is born,
which also affects our field of aviation. In the case of our
application, it shows up in flight- and maintenance manuals for
modern aircraft. We hereby quote:
1) “Humidity penetrates the structure of epoxy during prolonged
exposure and causes it to swell. Elevated temperature accelerates
the process.”
2) “Humidity, over long periods of time, also damages fiber
bonding materials,…… Especially the combination of high temperature
and high humidity is to be avoided! (For instance poorly ventilated
trailers in which humidity accumulates and which are subsequently
heated by the sun.)”
Such lessons have been learned not only with fiberglass aircraft,
but also with wood and combined material fabrication, also with
metal fabrication as well as the use of fabric and plastics.
Deterioration takes the form of osmosis, erosion, corrosion and rot
of all types. Very few owners can often and sufficiently ventilate
the aircraft stored in trailers.
Although we cannot influence the weather, we can counteract
extreme conditions in your trailer through selective ventilation.
Our humidity controller recognizes the accumulation of humidity and
automatically ventilates your trailer.
Since usually there is no reliable source of 120V AC in the
vicinity of the trailer, we mainly take advantage of the
self-sufficient 12V solar panel technology for powering of the
controller and ventilator.
